An Oklahoma City man is facing charges in Garvin County this week after a Christmas morning police pursuit and manhunt that ended in Maysville.

Devin Chance Yandell, 25, of Oklahoma City, was charged Wednesday in Garvin County District Court after he allegedly led police on a pursuit that began in McClain County just before dawn Christmas morning.

According to a statement the McClain County Sheriff’s Office posted to social media, a McClain County Deputy was responding to a prowler call in Goldsby just after 4 a.m. when he observed a white van leaving the area and followed it southbound on Interstate 35. The driver of the van was later identified as Yandell.

Garvin County officers were notified by dispatch just before 5 a.m. that McClain County was in pursuit of the van, which had exited I-35 and was southbound on State Highway 74 headed toward Maysville, according to a probable cause affidavit filed in the case.

Officers used stop sticks to disable the van on Highway 74 near the Washita River in Garvin County, but Yandell left the vehicle, fleeing on foot into the wooded river bottom.

A search ensued, with K9 officers and drones from additional agencies called in to assist, but officers were unable to locate Yandell.

Just before 10 a.m., deputies were notified a resident on the north side of Maysville had reported a man matching Yandell’s description had stopped and asked for gasoline, before heading south into town. The resident said the man was “covered in mud from the neck down,” and was riding a red all-terrain vehicle that did not have mud on it, which the resident found suspicious, according to the affidavit.

Following that lead, a Garvin County Deputy located Yandell coming out of a Maysville convenience store at the intersection of Highway 74 and State Highway 19. The red ATV, which had been stolen from a residence near the river north of Maysville, was also located behind the store.

According to the affidavit, the van Yandell was driving was stolen out of Oklahoma City, and deputies discovered approximately 30 grams of pills, suspected to be fentanyl, in the vehicle.

Yandell was arrested and booked into the Garvin County jail, where he is being held on a $100,000 bond. He is charged with attempting to elude an officer and aggravated trafficking of illegal drugs.
